How to Propagate Hydrangea

Propagating your Hydrangea is an easy way to add more to your garden for free!  And you can do it up until late summer!

Cut

First, Cut 4-5 inches right below a leaf node.

Remove leaves

Remove all leaves on the stem leaving the two on the very top.

Cut leaves in half

Cut the two leaves on the top in half. This will save energy to put towards rooting.

Use Root Horomone

Dipping the stem in rooting hormone will help but is not needed.

Plant

Place each stem in pots. Keeping the soil moist but not soggy.

Create your own small green house buy using a clear tote and place in indirect sun.

4-6 Weeks

In 4 to 6 weeks your small cuttings will be ready to plant. Plant before the first frost to give them time to acclimated to their new home.
